ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK OVERVIEW

Etosha is Namibia's best known National Park.  Etosha has all the normal dramatic African animals barring Buffalo

Etosha is in the northern part of Namibia.  The park covers an area of just over 23,000km2.  A pan, about 5,000km2  creates the backdrop to the wildlife spectacle in Etosha.

Etosha is especially good for seeing lion, and this is especially the case in the very dry months (i.e. up till mid October)

However the wet season is the best time for the sheer diversity of fauna and flora. This time of the year it may be hard to find the traditional 'big five' but for the naturalist, this is the most exciting time to be in the park.  This is especially so for those interested in Birding.

Etosha is a fantastic park for seeing giraffe.  Zebras, Springbok, Oryx, Wildebeest, the special black-faced Impalas and kudu are all common in the park.

Etosha has two main regions where the access gates are.  In between there is also a rest camp called Halali.

The one in the middle/south of the park is the Okaukuejo area and the Anderson's gate.  Here lodges like Onguma area situated outside the park and Okaukuejo rest camp, inside the park.

On the eastern side of the park, Namutoni rest camp is situated inside the park and lodges like Onguma and Mushara are situated outside the park.

It is best to do both sides of the park, if not more, on a visit to the region.  The park is very large and driving across it is time consuming.
